Mandzukic: "I had offers from England"
Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic has claimed he received offers to play in the Premier League during the summer
Mandzukic left Bayern Munich for the La Liga champions Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window, after the club signed Robert Lewandowski.
He also revealed that he had offers from Russia and Italy, although the chance to play for Atletico was one he couldn’t refuse.
“I chose the right path for my career. During negotiations I quickly realised two things – they were very keen to sign me and they were very serious and professional,” he told AS.
“It wasn’t logical for me to stay at Bayern. I had proposals from England and I think that would have suited my style.
“There were also interesting offers from Italy and Russia but when the interest of Atletico began to take shape, I put the brakes on everything.”
Manduzkic has scored six goals for his new club, including the winner in Sunday’s 1-0 win away to Getafe.
Chelsea were heavily linked with a move for the Croatian, however they brought Diego Costa from Mandzukic’s new club Atletico, leaving a void for the Spanish club to sign the striker.
