Sydney FC beaten in Del Piero's return to Padova
A-League club Sydney FC have been beaten 3-2 by Italian club Padova in a pre-season friendly
The match at the Stadio Euganeo marked Alessandro Del Piero's return to his first professional club but he could not guide the Sky Blues to victory on Their first fixture of the Italian tour.
Daniele Vantaggiato opened the scoring for the Serie B outfit in the fourth minute before Brett Emerton pulled Sydney level in the 12th minute.
Vantaggiato restored Padova's advantage three minutes later before youngster Aeneas Jelenic made it 3-1 to the home side in the 81st minute.
Nick Carle then converted form the penalty spot with six minutes remaining for a consolation goal Sydney.
Sydney FC takes on Serie A club Udinese, made up of reserve and youth team players, tomorrow night in Jesolo at 6pm (2am Thursday Sydney time).
