Hiddink could quit Netherlands post

Guus Hiddink has hinted that he could walk away from his job as Netherlands coach if they fail to beat Latvia in a crucial Euro 2016 qualifier on November 16th

The 67-year-old only took over in the summer, but has so far lost three of the four matches he has been in charge of, with the only win a 3-1 struggle against Kazakhstan.

The Euro qualifying defeats to both Czech Republic and Iceland has put Hiddink under immense pressure, and he has admitted a loss to Latvia could end his second spell in charge of the national team.

Hiddink told a press conference, “If we lose the match against Latvia, I will draw my conclusion from it,”

“It’s not something I have talked about with the players. I don’t think a draw will be good enough either...

Despite losing two of the opening three group matches, Hiddink is confident of progression to the tournament in France, “Will Netherlands qualify? Yes.”

Hiddink is also not happy with the media blowing the losses out of proportion, “I don’t like the drama that is now swirling around the team. There is an over reaction. But I have to accept it. The criticism is a lot harsher these days compared to when I first coached the team. But the media are competing much more with each other.”
